Could an intelligent digital research assistant become a must-have tool for academic research and open scholarship? Could a next generation scholarly communications platform enable new forms of research outputs and new channels for dissemination?
We would like to draw your attention to our set of Visions for our future Research and Development work in Jisc. These will help us prioritise future development work, and review and refocus our existing projects.
We wanted to encourage you to have a look at and to comment on the Jisc “Visions” – in particular the Research Vision – before 2nd February:
https://www.jisc.ac.uk/rd/get-involved/inform-the-future-of-technology-in-education-and-research
The three draft vision documents for research, further education (FE) and skills, and higher education (HE) teaching and learning have been produced in consultation with several sector bodies. The vision documents are not final or authoritative and are intended to initiate discussion.
They include:
- an overview of where digital technology may bring about changes by 2020/2030
- Sketches of how these changes may benefit specific roles in 2020/2030
- Prompts for discussion on potential ideas to help generate such changes
The prompts for the Research vision are
Beyond the PDF – Could a next generation scholarly communications platform enable new forms of research outputs and new channels for dissemination?
Replicating research – Could new tools and methods for sharing research enable machines to replicate experiments with ease?
Big Data – Smart Research – Could a shared big data research platform transform research?
The next generation research environment – Could an intelligent digital research assistant become a must-have tool for academic research and open scholarship?
Responsive interoperable research management environment – Can we build the technical infrastructure so research systems share information about research outputs?
Reliable new research metrics – Can we build the data infrastructure that underpins metrics and indicators so that UK research is at the cutting edge and supports open scholarship?
Digital Capability for Research – Could a transformative skills online training offer empower an emerging population of world class researchers?
Reach out with Research – Could a current research outputs application uncover the value of research to all?
Intelligent System for research and publication – Could a service largely automate the steps of article publication easing life for authors and reducing costs?
We would like to stimulate thinking more widely and capture your views to produce a set of useful visions. Please help us to develop these visions that will benefit education and research and shape our development work by visiting the web page and commenting.
We’re particularly interested in finding out:
- What we might have missed
- Where there’s work that’s already happening
- Which bits are exciting and which are less relevant
- What would make the biggest difference to you
Anything else you think is relevant!
